New York City-based photographer Go Sugimoto was born in Japan’s southern Yamaguchi prefecture and raised in the dynamic city of Tokyo. He first arrived in New York in 1997, while traveling the world independently at the age of 18, and instantly fell in love. Two years later, he discovered a passion for photography, as soon as he stepped into the darkroom his roommate ran from the basement of her loft, in Brooklyn.

After studying at the International Center of Photography (ICP), Go worked at the fine art printing lab Griffin Editions, and assisted contemporary artists and commercial photographers. During this time, he freelanced for various commercial clients and developed an independent practice.

Go is often inspired by the unexpected nature of his adopted city, and his dual cultural background continues to exert an influence on his work in all its forms. He lives in Brooklyn with his girlfriend and their son, where he spends his non-studio time cooking vegan food with them.

Clients include Avon, Christie’s, Elle France, Jinsoon, Katy Perry collections, Formulyst, Wolf-Gordon, and Westelm among others.
